MobileAware welcomes the final publication of the W3C Device Description Repository (DDR) Simple API Recommendation. DUBLIN, Ireland - 11 December 2008 - MobileAware, in its role as chair of the W3C Device Description Working Group (DDWG), welcomes the final publication of the W3C Recommendation describing a standard interface to Device Description Repositories. The technology, now an official Web standard, forms part of several emerging mobile solutions and is designed to make it easier for Web servers to determine the capabilities of the devices to which they are serving content. This is an important consideration for mobile Web sites, and is formally recognised in the W3C's recent publication of Best Practices for mobile sites. Todd Shingler, MobileAware's Chief Executive Officer, commented on the ratification of the new Web standard: "This W3C initiative removes a significant barrier to mobile Web development; MobileAware is proud to have led the work to a successful conclusion." The Chair of the DDWG, MobileAware's Chief Innovations Architect Dr Rotan Hanrahan gave his reaction to the news from W3C: "This is great news; it moves the mobile Web one more step forward and will lead to much improved user experiences. I congratulate all the members of the Working Group for a job well done." Many world-leading companies were involved during the lifetime of the group, including: AT&T, Vodafone, Telefónica, IBM, Samsung, Nokia, Ericsson, Volantis, Deutsche Telekom, Openwave, The Boeing Company, dotMobi, ETRI, Opera, CTIC, France Telecom, SATEC, Citigroup and more. The formal title of the new standard is the "DDR Simple API". Details can be found on the W3C DDWG home page on the Web: www.w3.org/2005/MWI/DDWG/. MobileAware continues its involvement with the W3C's Mobile Web Initiative and will be announcing products that support the newly announced specifications. MobileAware's leading position in the W3C was supported by Enterprise Ireland. About MobileAware About W3C Media Contacts : Marketing Department |
